Terms of Service

What you can expect from the mabor app, and what we ask in return. By creating an account or using the app, you accept these terms.

Last updated: November 8, 2026

01The service

mabor is a digital cookbook: recipes with ingredients, steps, photos and categories, synced to our server so they survive a reinstall and are available on several devices. The app is not a collection of ready-made recipes: it makes room for your own. The service consists of the mobile app, the sync server and this website, and it is free. It is run by Máté Magyar, an independent developer in Hungary (info@mabor.hu).

The app is distributed through Google Play, so Google Play's terms also apply to downloading and updating it. This agreement, however, is between you and us: Google is not responsible for the mabor app or its support.

02Your account

  • To sign up you need a valid email that you use, and a password.
  • Keep your password secret; you are responsible for what happens in your account.
  • If you think someone else got into your account, change your password right away (this logs out every other device), and write to us.
  • An account is for one person's personal use.
  • You can use the service if you are over 16.

03Acceptable use

When using the service, you must not:

  • attack or overload the service, or get around its security measures;
  • access another user's account or data;
  • store or spread unlawful content with it;
  • flood it with automated or excessive requests or content (normal personal use - even years of daily cooking - comes nowhere near the technical limits);
  • resell the service or offer it as your own.

We may suspend or close accounts that break these rules.

04Your content

Your recipes and photos are yours. We make no claim to them, and we don't just not read them: they are encrypted on your phone with a key only your password unlocks, so we couldn't. You give us only as much technical permission as storing the encrypted content and syncing it between your devices needs; it ends when you delete the content. How we handle data is described in the privacy policy.

Since we can't read or recover the encrypted content, keeping your password and the one-time recovery key the app gives you safe is up to you. If both are lost, resetting the password doesn't bring back your existing recipes, only an empty account. This is a consequence of the encryption, not a limit we could lift with more effort. That on Android the app also keeps a copy of the key on your phone is a convenience, not a backup: that copy may be lost when the phone is replaced, reset or lost, so keep your own copy.

Only upload photos you have the right to use. If you send feedback or ideas, we may use them to improve the service without owing you anything for it; we never publish your name or your message without your permission.

05The app and the name

You get a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the app and the website for your own purposes, as long as you follow these terms. The app, the website, their code and design, and the mabor name and logo are ours (open source components belong to their authors, under their own licenses). You may not copy, modify or distribute the app, present the name or the logo as your own, or reverse engineer the app, except where the law expressly allows it.

06“As is”

We provide the service “as is” and “as available”. We work on it carefully, but we are a small team: we can't promise that it will run without interruptions or errors, or that it meets every need of yours. For anything you can't afford to lose, keep your own copy with the export too.

Cooking is your kitchen and your responsibility. The timer is an aid: if the phone saves power in the background, it may ring late, so don't leave the stove, the oven or what's on them to it alone. You write the contents of the recipes (amounts, allergens, temperatures), and we don't check them.

If you use the service as a consumer, you keep every right that consumer protection laws give you and that can't be waived. These terms don't limit them.

07Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential damage, data loss or lost profits arising from using (or being unable to use) the service. The service is free. These terms don't exclude any liability that the law doesn't allow to be excluded (for example for a breach of contract caused intentionally or by gross negligence, or one that harms life, physical integrity or health).

08Ending your account

You can stop using the service any time. The fastest way is in the app: at the bottom of Settings, Delete account deletes everything immediately; before that, Export recipes makes a backup. Without the app, you can delete it on the mabor.hu/en/delete-account page with a code sent by email, or write to us.

We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms. Unless the law, a security risk or the nature of the breach rules it out, we tell you first, give our reasons, and give you the chance to export. If we were to shut the service down, we would announce it at least 60 days in advance.

09Changes

The app evolves: features may be added, changed or removed, and these terms may change too. When they do, we update the date above. For an important change, we notify you at least 30 days before it takes effect, on this page, on the app's store page and at your account's email. If you don't agree, you can delete your account any time; if you keep using the service after the change takes effect, you accept the new terms. Changes required by law, or ones that fix a security flaw, may take effect sooner.

10Complaints and disputes

If anything is wrong, write to us first at info@mabor.hu - most things can be solved quickly this way. We answer every complaint within 30 days, and do our best to put right what went wrong. If we can't solve it together, you can turn to the conciliation body, consumer protection authority or court that has jurisdiction where you live; nothing takes this right away from you.

11General provisions

  • These terms, together with the privacy policy, are the entire agreement between you and us about the service. If any part of them proves invalid, the rest stays in force.
  • These terms are governed by Hungarian law; if you are a consumer, you also benefit from the mandatory consumer protection rules of the law of the country where you live.
  • If we don't enforce a term right away, we can still enforce it later.
  • You may not transfer your account or these terms to anyone else. We may transfer them to a new owner of the service, as described in the privacy policy, without reducing your rights.
  • We notify you through your account's email; a notice sent this way counts as written.
  • These terms are available in Hungarian and English. If the two versions differ, the Hungarian version prevails.
